Working with Wisdom (WwW) is an innovative and flexible approach to the support of early career nurses and midwives in their transition to professional practice in SA Health.
The WwW program will see senior nurses and midwives (Clinical Practice Mentors) working at the bedside with the graduates to support their transition, build their confidence and skill consolidation.
Clinical Practice Mentor
The Working with Wisdom Clinical Practice Mentor (WwW CPM) role is an innovative and flexible approach to the support of early career nurses and midwives in their transition to professional practice in SA Health.
As a nurse or midwife experienced in leadership and direction of student nurses, enrolled nurses, and less experienced registered nurses and/or midwives, the WwW CPM is uniquely positioned to provide ‘point of care’ support to new and early career nurses and midwives guiding and facilitating clinical skills acquisition, enhanced critical thinking, reasoning skills, and providing real time clinical support.
The WwW CPM sits alongside existing transition program and pathway support roles providing a vital layer of support to build and sustain a culture of safe, quality, and high-performance care delivery amongst early career nurses and midwives.
The WwW CPM will participate in a local health service induction program providing the nurse and/or midwife with the knowledge and skills to provide support for early career nurses and midwives. This includes orientation/training comprising the following:
- SA Health TPPP online modules
- Mental health first aid training course
- Mentoring workshop
- Enhancing communication workshop
