Alcohol

There are harms associated with drinking too much both on a single occasion and over a lifetime. These can be serious and even life threatening.

National guidelines recommend that you have no more than ten standard drinks a week and no more than four standard drinks on any one day, to reduce your risk of an alcohol related disease or injury. The less you drink, the lower your risk of harm from alcohol.

The purpose of this section is to:

  • provide information about alcohol (PDF 96KB) and its harmful effects
  • outline ways to address alcohol misuse, including types of services and treatments available
  • provide relevant information for specific audiences including parents and young people
  • assist health practitioners with procedures and tools for working with clients with alcohol-related issues.
