Our statewide services
Our statewide and community-based health services serve health consumers and provide specialist clinical services to other health service providers across South Australia.

Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia (DASSA) provides a statewide health service, which addresses alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceutical and illicit drug issues and offers a range of prevention, treatment, education and community-based services for all South Australians.
DonateLife SA coordinates all organ and tissue donor activities across the state working with organ and tissue donation medical specialists, nurses and transplant unit staff at the major SA public hospitals and encouraging all South Australian families to make an informed decision about becoming an organ and tissue donor.
The Eye Bank of South Australia is a statewide service that is responsible for the procurement, processing and distribution of quality ocular tissue to Ophthalmologists throughout South Australia.
Integrated Care (IC) is a clinical service stream of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), which provides contemporary, innovative clinical care at the important interface between hospitals and community.
IC plays an important role for consumers whose care needs are unable to be safely managed by primary care but do not require emergency-level care or ‘bricks and mortar’ hospital admissions. IC supports vulnerable consumers who may have complex physical and psychosocial needs.
Statewide services incorporated in IC includes:
O’Brien Street Practice
O’Brien Street Practice (OBP) located in the Central Business District (CBD), provides a service for patients with HIV, and primary health care consults with a focus on ensuring equity of access to health care is fair to all health consumers. This includes specialised HIV, Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), Hep B and C, and sexual health services.
Refugee Health Service
The State-wide Refugee Health Service (RHS) located in CALHN, provides early intervention specialist health services for Humanitarian Refugees and Asylum Seekers, with supported transition to mainstream primary care services.
SA Health Urgent Care Hub
SA Health Urgent Care Hub provides multidisciplinary rapid assessment and urgent care for patients who:
- have care needs that are unable to be met by primary care or community services and
are on trajectory to present to a hospital emergency department, but do not require ‘emergency level’ care and - can safely receive care in a community health care setting.
SA Health Urgent Care Hub is a referral-only service which operates from multiple sites (Sefton Park and Woodville). Referrals may be received from:
- Community health care providers
- General Practitioners
- SA Ambulance Service
- SA Health Emergency Departments*
- SA Virtual Care Service
*Non-Government organisations or consumers may be redirected from our Emergency Departments to an Urgent Care Hub.
SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) is the provider of emergency ambulance services in South Australia.
SAAS provides out-of-hospital emergency patient care and transport as well as a non-emergency patient transport service.
SASS also manages ambulance support at emergency and major public events and coordinate rescue operations in partnership with other health and emergency services.
The SA Digital Telehealth Network provides the technology for clinicians and consumers to communicate face-to-face from different locations. Remote patients are able to receive health services conveniently, reducing time and travel requirements.
The SA Health Library Service provides access to evidence-based resources to inform clinical and business decision making, research, innovation, education and training.
The library service is available to all SA Health staff.
SA Prison Health Service (SAPHS) focus is on preventing unnecessary hospital admissions, and facilitating early discharge pathways from the acute sector. SAPHS is responsible for the provision of a range of primary health care services to Prisoners in State managed adult prisons in South Australia.
The SA Virtual Care Service (SAVCS) provides a virtual, personalised assessment of patients that would normally only be available in an ED.
The service supports consumers from across South Australia using virtually-enabled technology to access timely, specialist care from home or within their local community. A multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses and paramedics, has visibility across the health system to streamline and coordinate the most appropriate response and pathway for patients.
Statewide clinical support services (SCSS) functions as a division of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) and collaborates with the Department for Health and Wellbeing and the other Local Health Networks to ensure that structures, systems, and processes are in place to support quality service delivery and ongoing improvement.

Breastscreen SA
BreastScreen SA is South Australia’s dedicated breast cancer screening program, providing free screening mammograms (breast X-rays) every 2 years to women aged over 40.
SA Dental Service
SA Dental Service (SADS) is the leader in policy, advocacy, education, and health promotion to improve oral health for all South Australians, with a specific focus on increasing equity in oral health for priority population groups.
SA Medical Imaging
SA Medical Imaging (SAMI) is responsible for providing all medical imaging services at SA public hospitals and management of contracts with external medical imaging service providers at some SA Health sites.
SA Pathology
SA Pathology trades as IMVS Pathology and provides quality diagnostic pathology services to the South Australian community through its laboratories in metropolitan and regional hospitals and its conveniently located patient centres.
SA Pharmacy
SA Pharmacy is responsible for providing pharmacy services at SA metropolitan public hospitals and country hospitals with on-site pharmacy departments.

The State Health Coordination Centre (SHCC) is a central and integrated coordination hub, designed to manage system-wide patient flow, respond to blockages and ensure resources are directed where they are needed.
Located at the SA Ambulance Service headquarters, it operates 24/7 to provide real-time visibility of patient journeys across metropolitan and regional hospitals.
Telerehabilitation services use online video conferencing (telehealth) to deliver rehabilitation services to people in their own homes via an iPad or computer. It also enables most country patients to access specialist care much closer to home at their local health service.
Trauma SA is the state-wide collaboration of all services that make up the South Australian trauma system.
