International Clinical Trials Day 2023 – 20 May 2023
International Clinical Trials Day is celebrated annually on May 20. It is a day to recognise all people who contribute to the clinical trials sector including clinical research professionals and clinical trial participants. It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the vital role clinical trials play in healthcare.
On 20 May 1747, James Lind started what is often considered the first randomised clinical trial aboard a ship to determine the cause of scurvy.

BIO International Convention – 5-8 June 2023
The 2023 BIO International Convention will be held in Boston, USA, and will attract over 14,000 biotechnology and pharma leaders for one week of intensive networking to discover new opportunities and partnerships.
The Australian Teletrial Program - SA (ATP-SA) team is looking forward to attending as part of Team SA at the Australia booth, and the opportunities for networking with innovators in the industry to attract clinical trials to South Australia, and promote teletrials on the world stage.
ARCS Conference – 6-8 June 2023
The 2023 ARCS Annual Conference will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Darling Harbour, Sydney.
The ARCS Annual Conference brings together industry professionals, consumers, patients, practitioners, researchers and academia to unite, educate, inform and network.
For the first time, SA Health will be convening an exhibition booth in collaboration with other SA organisations. This will be a fantastic opportunity to engage with other clinical research professionals. More updates to come.

Australian Clinical Trials Education Centre (A-CTEC) Conference – 2-3 March 2023
A-CTEC, previously known as V-CTEC, held its first annual conference in Melbourne, with the theme of “Clinical Trials: Quality or Quantity?” (Please see here for the full agenda).
The Australian Teletrial Program - South Australia (ATP-SA) team was fortunate to attend both online and in-person. Highlights of the conference included a consumer panel, where clinical trials participants shared their experience, and emphasised the importance of communicating a message of “hope” to patients within the clinical trials space.
We send our congratulations to the Dr. Eman Nafea and the A-CTEC team on their success, and thank them for bringing the clinical trials community together to focus on building capacity and capability through education.
A-CTEC is a free online training platform available for everyone involved in clinical trials across Australia, regardless of their role or site.

British Oncology Pharmacists Association (BOPA) Symposium – 7-9 October 2022
Dr Pascale Dettwiller was invited to attend and present at the British Oncology Pharmacists Association (BOPA), 25th-anniversary celebration. Pascale presented on Equity, Delivery, and Inclusion (EDI) in Oncology from a survey tool developed for this aim. The BOPA has set up an EDI sub-committee that will focus on key aims and objectives, including education and training, to increase the quality of services provided by pharmacists. EDI in oncology is an emerging concern, and SA Health champions these values to bridge the health gaps for our rural, regional and remote residents.
SALHN Research Week – 26-30 September 2022
Research Week was an opportunity to showcase SALHN’s excellence in enquiry and research.
The theme of 2022’s week was based on SALHN’s Four Field of Enquiry (FFOE): Discovery Science, Clinical Trials, Health Services Research and Continuous Improvement / Implementation Science.
With one day dedicated to each of the Four Fields, they welcomed 55 presenting speakers and 608 registered attendees, both in-person and online.
