Medicines and Technology Programs
Medicines and Technology Programs, within the System Performance division of the Department for Health and Wellbeing, is responsible for medicines policy and programs and health technology assessment within the South Australian public sector.
Role of Medicines and Technology Programs
Medicines and Technology Programs:
- leads development and implementation of statewide policy and programs for medicines and health technology assessment to ensure best possible outcomes for all South Australians
- improves equity of access to medicines including optimising resource allocation and the quality use of medicines
- develops and administers controlled substances legislation
- provides expert advice and education to a wide range of stakeholders
- works in partnership with health services to improve patient safety and quality of care.

Medicines and Technology Programs convenes a number of statewide strategic medicines committees including the:
- South Australian Cancer Drug Committee
- South Australian Medicines Advisory Committee (SAMAC)
- South Australian Medicines Evaluation Panel (SAMEP)
- South Australian Medication Safety Advisory Group (SAMSAG)
- South Australian Policy Advisory Committee on Technology (SAPACT)
- South Australian Formulary Committee (SAFC)
- Controlled Substances Advisory Council.
