New rehabilitation facilities at TQEH
From Tuesday, 9 July 2024, general rehabilitation wards will be based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the brand new, five-storey Kangkanthi building.
There are two general rehabilitation units in the new Kangkanthi building:
- The Tarnma Rehabilitation Unit (orthopaedic, amputee and burns) on level 3. Tarnma is the Kaurna word for Banksia.
- The Karra Rehabilitation Unit (stroke) on level 4. Karra is the Kaurna word for Red Gum.
Features of the rehabilitation units include:
- Single patient bedrooms with ensuites
- Open plan living, dining and kitchen area
- Dedicated outdoor terrace
- Therapy gyms and therapy spaces
- Therapy apartment
- Patient laundry facilities
- Sheer and blackout blinds in all bedrooms
- South Australian landscape photography throughout each level
The Kangkanthi building officially opened to the public on Wednesday, 3 July 2024 and includes the following services:
- Emergency department
- Medical Imaging
- Intensive Care Unit
- SA Pathology
- CSSD
- Procedures
- Cardiac Cath Lab
- Operating Theatres and recovery spaces
- General rehabilitation units
