Dementia Care Facility
In a South Australian first, the State Government will partner with HammondCare to deliver innovative, home-like accommodation to care for people with varying stages of dementia.
A new Dementia Care Facility will be built at the revitalised Repat site, so our most vulnerable South Australians can live with dignity and quality of life.
The new facility is an important step forward in implementing the Oakden Response statewide model of care, providing best-practice services for South Australians living with dementia.
With latest data showing dementia is on the rise in SA, it is timelier than ever before to build a range of facilities that provide the best support to people who need specialised care.
Construction and clinical oversight of the facility will be the responsibility of HammondCare, with specialist clinical support such as psychogeriatricians or geriatricians provided by SA Health.
First demolition works for the new facility are expected to begin in the first half of 2020.
Separate to the HammondCare facility, an 18 bed Neuro-Behavioural Unit (NBU) is to be developed adjacent to the Dementia Care Facility, with works expected to commence January 2020.
