Important notice for Sunday 18 April 2021 - accident and emergency services

Due to a planned upgrade of the generator at the Gawler Health Service, there will be an impact on accident and emergency (A&E) and birthing services in Gawler on Sunday 18 April 8.00 am - 1.00 pm.

During the above period, all emergency presentations by ambulance and birthing services will be diverted to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

The Gawler Health Service will continue to exercise duty of care to presenting health consumers during the above period, and will transfer patients to the Lyell McEwin Hospital as appropriate. Women scheduled to give birth close to this period have been contacted by their midwife.

We apologise for any distress or inconvenience this may raise for you and your family.

Those requiring non-emergency medical attention should visit their local GP, dentist or pharmacy as appropriate.

Gawler Health Service provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services to patients from Gawler and surrounding communities including the Lower North and Barossa Valley.

Patients may commence their stay at Gawler Health Service but finish their care at one of the neighbouring Hospitals with specialist medical or allied health input when required. All hospitals in the region work collaboratively to support the patient care needs.

Accident and emergency services

In a medical emergency phone 000 and await ambulance attendance

When you arrive at the Gawler Health Service accident and emergency service, you will be seen by a nurse to collect information and assess your illness or injury prior to seeing a doctor.

Mental health emergencies

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency you can present to the accident and emergency service at Gawler Health Service.

Alternatively, contact the Rural and Remote Mental Health Service on 13 14 65 for mental health counselling, support and information 24 hours, 7 days.

Private patients

At the Gawler Health Service you can choose to be admitted as a Private Patient. Admission as a private patient has benefits for both you and the hospital.

Car parking

Parking is available at the front of the hospital as well as additional parking in car parks 3 and 4. There is also disabled parking on site.
