Visit Lyell McEwin Hospital

In order to slow the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) visitor limits have been put in place, they are:


> Adult hospital inpatients - are able to receive a maximum of one (1) adult visitor per patient per day during established visiting hours.
> Paediatric inpatients - are able to receive a maximum of one (1) designated adult visitor per patient per day during established visiting hours.
> Persons attending Emergency Department or an Outpatients Appointment - can have a maximum of one (1) adult accompany them to the Emergency Department or an Outpatient appointment providing physical distancing can be maintained.
> Birthing women - a maximum of one (1) designated visitor may attend with a woman in labour.
> Women who have delivered - a maximum of one (1) designated visitor can visit the ward environment.
> Neonatal inpatients - a maximum of two (2) individual visitors per patient per day during established visiting hours if the individuals are part of the same household..
> Patients in ICU or those who are palliative/end of life -  A maximum of two (2) individuals are allowed to visit at one time, per day, if the individuals are part of the same household.


All persons entering NALHN sites are required to:


> QR code or provide details if unable to QR Code on entry as requested
> Perform hand hygiene on entry
> Maintain 1.5 metres physical distancing.
> Wear a face mask (masks will be available at Concierge and cloth masks are not permitted to be worn at any NALHN site by staff or visitors)

Visitors play an important part in any patient’s hospital stay and are welcome. Visitors are encouraged to visit within the following times:

General wards: 10.00 am to 12:00 pm and 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm daily.

Women’s Health Unit: 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm to 8:00 pm daily. The maternity unit is also open for husbands/partners only between 8.00 am to 11.00 am.

Paediatric ward: 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm daily.

Please note:

To comply with COVID-19 restrictions, including density requirements, visitors are restricted to one adult visitor per day, with exception of neonates and those who are palliated or in the Intensive Care Unit; in those instances two visitors are able to visit per day if the individuals are from the same household.

  • Visiting is at the discretion of nursing and midwifery staff, from whom permission should first be obtained.
  • Please check food, sweets and drinks for patients with the nursing and midwifery staff, as many patients are on special diets.
  • Please consider patients in the hospital, by behaving quietly and observing any restrictions on visitation made for the benefit of the patient.
  • Visiting children are the responsibility of their parent or adult carer and must be supervised at all times while in the hospital, and noise kept to a minimum.
  • Furniture is placed to ensure rapid access to rooms in emergencies. For this reason, seating for visitors is limited.
