Grant purposes:

To increase food security, increase access to low or no cost healthy food choices, increase knowledge of nutrition and develop cooking skills that will contribute to improved nutrition and physical health of Ceduna community experiencing food insecurity.

Target population:

The whole Ceduna population with a focus on people experiencing food insecurity.

External partner and their role:

Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation: to support in referring and advocating for the service within the Aboriginal community, particularly those experiencing food insecurity and those experiencing health issues related to nutrition. This also includes support on transport requirements of clients to reduce barriers to access the service.

Project overview:

Develop a Food Hub in Ceduna with the purpose of distributing food relief to those experiencing food insecurity. The Food Hub will provide access to nutritious, healthy food options and help to facilitate healthy food choices for the most vulnerable in Ceduna and the surrounding remote communities. It focuses on food security and supporting well-being that will aim to support the prevention of chronic diseases through the promotion of nutrition and healthy eating. The project will deliver Foodbank SA’s Food Education Program promoting healthy eating and provide meal packs and translated instruction cards (recipes and cooking skills).
