Grant purpose:

To support community residents to improve their social connections and increase physical activity

Members of the Copley community, surrounding communities and visitors

External partner and their role:

University of South Australia: will provide specialised input in regard to relevant equipment for the outdoor gym, the community workshops and resources. The University will also assist with the development and review of a community survey and contribute to the evaluation of the use of the outdoor gym.

Project overview:

This project aims to increase physical activity amongst community members and reduce social isolation while promoting the philosophy of a healthy and active community.

The Copley Outdoor Gym will provide access to free exercise equipment with four stations spread around the community. This will also encourage walking between the stations.

The installation of the equipment stations will be undertaken by local unemployed residents, creating labour hire opportunities and skills development.
