International Allied Health Professions Day is celebrated annually on October 14. The international event was created in 2018 by two clinicians in the UK, initially as a grass roots social movement on Twitter, to celebrate the hard work and efforts of all allied health professionals (AHPs). The Allied and Scientific Health Office introduced the event to Australia in 2019 and it has continued to gather support across the Nation.
AHPs Day is a day for allied health professionals to shine, to celebrate and share how they work, care, connect and inspire.
The aims of this movement are twofold
This is achieved by allied health professionals coming together, both in workplace events and online, to share their stories, highlight their achievements, and promote their value.
AHPs day is for:
The Allied and Scientific Health Office (ASHO) can help you with ideas and can provide links to a Digital Kit that has resources to help plan your celebration and posts on social media. We also encourage you to join us in supporting AHPs Day 2021, raising awareness of the allied health sector by sharing your own social media posts, such as photos of staff events marking the occasion, profiles of allied health teams and practitioners, and videos highlighting the work of different professions.
We appreciate the efforts of all AHPs working on the frontline in hospitals and in the community in Australia’s response to COVID-19. We thank all AHPs for adapting to new methods of service delivery and for their flexibility, solution focused approach and commitment to caring for our consumers of health services.
The Allied and Scientific Health Office (ASHO) is proud to assist with promotional resources, celebration ideas, social media presence and general co-ordination activities and are calling for AHPs Day Ambassadors to connect with. If you would like to nominate as an Ambassador, please email the team at HealthAlliedandScientificHealth@sa.gov.au
We invite you to recognise and share the work that AHPs do, coming together to celebrate our skills and achievements with our colleagues and the wider community. We encourage you to share on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn and join the worldwide movement, using the event hashtags:
