Governing Board chairs and members expressions of interest (EOI)
Expressions of interest are sought for experienced Board chairs and Board members to fill current and vacancies across the 10 South Australian Local Health Network (LHN) Governing Boards starting 1 July 2025.
Governing Board members are positions of significant strategic leadership and responsibility in the health system presenting an opportunity for experienced leaders to engage closely with and guide Local Health Network decision making.
Membership composition outlined in the Health Care Act 2008 includes a mix of people with experience across different areas, including community engagement.
Requirements
Individuals with experience, knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Health management
- Clinical governance
- Commercial management
- Financial management
- The practice of Law
- The provision of health services, and
- Other knowledge, experience and expertise that will enable the effective performance of the Governing Board functions
Applicants should demonstrate at least ten years’ experience in their field of expertise and/or completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.
In addition to the above, applications are sought from:
- Health professionals
- Individuals with expertise, knowledge or experience in relation to Aboriginal health.
Due to limited vacancies, unsuccessful applicants will be included in the EOI register to be considered future vacancies for nominated boards.

Frequently asked questions
Local Health Network (LHN) Governing Boards are responsible for the overall governance and oversight of local service delivery by the LHNs, including governance of performance and budget achievement, clinical governance, safety and quality, risk management and fulfilment of the Governing Board functions and responsibilities.
If you have previously submitted an EOI application you do not need to re-apply, however if your CV has changed, please email Health.governingboardEOI@sa.gov.au an updated resume.
No, if you are a current Governing Board member you do not need to submit an EOI – unless you would like to be considered for a different Governing Board. If your current role is up for re-appointment your Board Chair will submit a reappointment preference on your behalf.
Eligibility to receive fees is determined in accordance with the Department of Premier and Cabinet Circular 16 - Remuneration for Government Appointed Part-Time Boards and Committees (September 2016) which contains the government's policy on remuneration for part-time boards and committees. Public sector employees are generally not eligible to be paid board fees, and must receive an approved exemption for this to occur. More information can be found in DPC Circular PC016.
Department for Health and Wellbeing staff are not eligible to apply for Governing Board positions. Local Health Network staff are eligible to apply for Governing Board positions at Local Health Networks they do not work for.
