New ambulance station in Woodville
The new Woodville ambulance station opened in July 2024, located on Hanson Road, Woodville Gardens. The new station is a base for 16 paramedics who commenced in November 2023.
BRIGHT hospital avoidance service
The new BRIGHT hospital avoidance service adjacent to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital commenced in July 2024. It provides rapid assessment and acute care for patients whose care needs are unable to be met by primary care providers and would otherwise need to be managed in an emergency department.
The referral only service has a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. There are in-person, and virtual consultation options with a range of on-site services including pharmacy, pathology, and imaging.
Medicare Urgent Care Clinic
A walk-in Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is now open at Old Port Road Medical & Dental Centre.
Staffed by doctors and nurses, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are open for extended hours and provide bulk-billed urgent care without an appointment or referral, giving South Australians more options for urgent health care.
The State Government is supporting the Federal Government and Adelaide Primary Health Networks to deliver six Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across South Australia to help reduce pressure on our hospitals.
Hindmarsh Priority Care Centre
The Hindmarsh Priority Care Centre provides community-based healthcare and treatment for eligible patients with urgent but non-life-threatening conditions who would otherwise seek treatment at a public hospital emergency department.
By referral only, Priority Care Centres are led by general practitioners with additional support from SA Health hospital-trained nurses, providing a range of services that support care and treatment with no out-of-pocket costs for eligible patients.
Community care facility for NDIS patients
A 24-bed community care facility is available in Regency Park to transition NDIS patients who no longer need acute care out of hospital but require additional support and care to help them get ready to return home.
Supporting people experiencing homelessness
The State Government is funding 20 additional discharge beds for people experiencing homelessness in a nine-year partnership with The Salvation Army. Patients discharged from the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be offered safe accommodation and connection to support services, as well as support to find longer-term accommodation options once they are well enough.
The first of the new beds will open late 2024, with all 20 beds expected to open early 2025.
