Home dialysis electricity concession, how to refer your patient

An electricity concession is available for eligible people with kidney disease receiving dialysis treatment at home.

People receiving at home dialysis treatment can receive $165 annually to contribute to the running cost of their equipment at home.

Eligibility for Concession

Any person undergoing dialysis treatment at home is eligible provided that the concession has been approved by a SA Health Practitioner.

Application process

Applications for the electricity concession can only be made through the SA Health renal unit where a person receives treatment.

Applicants for the concession must fill out a Home Dialysis Concession Claim form (DOC 340KB). A hard copy form is also available through their SA Health renal unit.

The Home Dialysis Concession Claim form must be signed and approved by a SA Health Practitioner to verify the person receives dialysis treatment at home.

Administration process

Renal unit staff are required to process the Home Dialysis Concession Claim form and a Vendor Creation / Amendment form by sending completed forms to Shared Services in accordance with the health sites' normal delegation and accounts payable processes by the first Friday in March each year.

This will facilitate payment of the concession in April and May each year.

The Home Dialysis Concession Claim form will need to be completed each year by the eligible person and relevant SA Health Practitioner.

Where an eligible person has changed relevant details, for example their bank account information, another Vendor Creation/Amendment form will need to be completed and forwarded to Shared Services to ensure successful payment.

Where a person’s eligibility has ceased during the year for which a full payment has already been made, no action will be taken to recover the overpayment.
