South Australia Abortion & Support Services
Pregnancy Advisory Centre - pro-choice, non-judgmental, women centred, understanding services for women with an unplanned pregnancy
The Pregnancy Advisory Centre encourages early referral via GP, or self referral. Doctors are legally required to refer patients to another doctor or service even when they have a conscientious objection to terminations.
Appointments can be made by contacting the Pregnancy Advisory Centre on Telephone 8243 3999. The woman herself must confirm the appointment with receptionist. Waiting time for appointments is usually 7 to 10 days.
Women will generally be given an initial consultation appointment at which a decision is made between early medication or surgical termination of pregnancy. A second appointment for the procedure will be made for several days later. The Pregnancy Advisory Centre performs surgical procedures on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.
Special arrangements are made for country women and those women who are 15 or more week’s gestation.
Women who are 9 weeks (63 days) gestation or less will be offered the option of an early medication abortion. An appointment for consultation is made and the abortion will commence on that day if the client is clear about her decision.
Patients don’t have to be referred by a doctor but we are happy to receive GP referrals.
