SA Health Allied Health Professional Supervision Framework

SA Health is committed to supporting Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) across all services to access consistent, appropriate and effective clinical supervision and professional support.

The Framework

Professional supervision facilitates the personal and professional development of the supervisee by providing a safe and supported environment to reflect on practice and set goals for future growth. This contributes to the provision of effective, safe, high quality and consumer-centred care.

The SA Health Allied Health Professional Supervision Framework (PDF 374KB) outlines the principles and minimum standards for professional supervision to be implemented in SA Health. The Framework is structured to enable flexibility in meeting the goals and needs of AHPs from a range of professions, with varied levels of experience and learning styles.

Local Health Networks (LHNs) may choose to develop their own Professional Supervision Frameworks so long as the principles and minimum standards outlined in the SA Health Framework are met.

Professional supervision templates

The Allied and Scientific Health Office has developed a range of optional templates to support implementation of the Framework:

These templates may be adapted for local use. Resources developed by LHNs, professional associations or registration boards may also be used.

Professional supervision eLearning

The Allied and Scientific Health Office and the Rural Support Service have partnered with the Centre for Education and Training (Women’s and Children’s Health Network) to develop two professional supervision eLearning modules. These modules support AHPs to implement the Professional Supervision Framework and can be accessed via your relevant LHN learning platform.
