Millicent and District Hospital and Health Service plan released

Monday, 16 December 2019

A new plan for Millicent and District Hospital and Health Service has today been released, identifying the key opportunities and future health needs of the local community.

Limestone Coast Local Health Network Chief Executive Officer, Ngaire Buchanan, said the Millicent Steering Group consulted with a range of communities, stakeholders, consumers and clinicians over a 12 month planning period to develop a plan for health services in the region.

“We are pleased to announce the completion of our Service Plan, which has now been endorsed by the Limestone Coast LHN at the November meeting,” Ms Buchanan said.

“The Service Plan focuses on key issues and opportunities impacting our Local Health Network and outlines health care solutions to better meet the needs of our community.

“We will be engaging with clinicians and key stakeholders throughout the implementation period, which will ensure continued progress of service initiatives and provide valuable feedback to the local health network.

“We would like to thank the community for engaging in the planning process and sharing their health values and priorities about future health services in Millicent.”

Acting Executive Officer and Director of Nursing and Midwifery of Millicent Hospital, Fiona Oliver, said the plan identifies a range of initiatives that will help local community members access health care closer to home and reduce the need to travel.

“It has been our priority to work together with community to ensure that the Service Plan is tailored to meet the needs of Millicent Hospital, both now and into the future,” Ms Oliver said.

“Some of the key priorities that have been identified are improvements to emergency services, medical inpatient services, surgery and anaesthetics, aged care, allied and community health services and mental health.

“Opportunities to strengthen workforce and infrastructure were key areas outlined in the plan, with a focus on enhancing rural employment opportunities and providing sustainable quality allied health and community services.”
