Excellence in Strengthening Partnerships - SA Health Awards 2020

WINNER: COVID-19 engagement with CALD communities

Corporate Communications, DHW

The Victorian COVID-19 outbreak provided SA with lessons on engaging culturally and linguistically diverse communities and the impact it has on managing the spread of COVID-19. Corporate Communications designed an engagement process and framework to ensure communities have access to culturally appropriate information, and can feed into SA Health with further requests. The framework is the result of collaboration between SA Health, Multicultural Affairs, Department of Human Services and NGOs.

FINALIST: Repat Neurobehavioural Unit: engaging carers with lived experience

Infrastructure Unit / Office of the Chief Psychiatrist / Office for Ageing Well, DHW

The Repat Neurobehavioural Unit was delivered as an outcome of the Oakden Report Response Plan through a collaboration between the Office for Ageing Well, Office of the Chief Psychiatrist and Infrastructure Unit. Consumer and carer perspectives were central to the delivery of the unit through a process of collaborative co-design. The outcome of this engagement being the delivery of a patient and family centred, non-acute, but clinically resourced facility.

FINALIST: Patient Reported Outcome Measures driving partnership and improved health outcomes

Dept of Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, Flinders Medical Centre, SALHN

The Department is a rare example of using PROMs in clinical practice, allowing consumers to report their health and wellbeing. They have seen a 44% increase in wellbeing after breast reconstruction and their data validated breast reduction surgery as a functional procedure (rather than purely cosmetic), which influenced national policy. The demonstrated benefits to consumers have motivated staff to embed PROMs into routine clinical care, despite significant administrative effort.
