Reactivating the Repat Phase 2 plans finalised
14 May 2020
Plans have been finalised for the $60 million second phase of the Reactivating the Repat redevelopment, with the landmark project being approved by the Public Works Committee this week.
Building works on the Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facilities, exercise physiology and sports gymnasium, Veterans’ Wellbeing Centre and Town Square will commence soon.
The second stage of works will deliver outstanding medical facilities and create jobs.
The Town Square will provide a focal point to ensure services at the Repat are connected through a central hub, providing spaces for patients to interact with their families and carers in a park-like environment. The square will include a café, activity hub and inclusive playground in open green spaces.
The purpose built 48-bed Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facility will provide a modern environment for a patient and family centred service, with the exercise physiology and sports gymnasium designed specifically to complement rehabilitation services.
A new Veterans’ Wellbeing Centre will ensure veterans maintain a strong link with the site through a dedicated space which meets their needs and the needs of their families.
Phase one works are progressing with the redevelopment of Ward 18 and Ward 20 as new homes for specialised dementia care services nearing completion, and demolition works making way for the new HammondCare dementia care facility.
In addition, works on dedicated COVID-19 facilities in Wards 5-8 are almost complete.
