The Penola War Memorial Hospital is part of the Limestone Coast Local Health Network. Our hospital offers a 24-hour accident and emergency service, six beds for medical, post surgical, convalescent, rehabilitation, palliative care and Transitional Care Packages. The hospital also manages the Penola Medical Clinic, community nursing and in-home support programs. Services for outpatients include medical, nursing and allied health services.

In a medical emergency phone 000 and await ambulance advice or attendance.

As part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the accident and emergency service will be closed from Monday 30 March 2020. The nearest 24-hour accident and emergency services are at Naracoorte Health Service or Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service.

Visiting Hours

As part of our response to COVID-19, arrangements for visitors across Limestone Coast LHN sites are now as follows:

  • Visits will only be conducted during the hours of 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm daily. Please see nursing staff for more information related to specific sites.
  • 2 visitors per patient are allowed at any one time.
  • Visits will be restricted to 15 minutes duration.
  • No children under the aged of 16 are to enter the facility but can be permitted to visit only by exception. Please call to discuss.
  • Visits are to occur in patient rooms only.
  • All patient lounge areas are closed.


For visiting aged care residents:

  • Maximum of one visitor per resident per day.
  • All visits limited to 15 minutes.
  • Visits will only be conducted during the hours of 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm daily.
  • No children under the aged of 16 are to enter the facility but can be permitted to visit only by exception. Please call to discuss.

There is disabled parking onsite.

The building is wheelchair accessible and there are toilets for people with disability. Please ask at Reception.
