Department of Geriatric and Rehabilitation Medicine

Medical Rehabilitation Program

Provides inpatient therapy for people with a variety of medical illnesses, placing special emphasis on neurological disorders, particularly strokes.

The program caters for a wide variety of age groups and conditions and is one of a range of integrated services from the acute phase, to outpatient participation in hydrotherapy and the Centre for Physical Activity in Ageing programs.

This program offers two streams of care:

  • planned respite and crisis admissions, to relieve patients or carers with social crises, and
  • a recovery care rehabilitation environment for patients, with various medical conditions, who may require a longer stay or less intensive therapy to facilitate successful discharge to an independent community setting, thus preventing or delaying institutional care.

Geriatric Rehabilitation Program

The short stay unit has planned respite beds and takes acute admissions, to relieve patients or carers with social crises.

The extended care unit provides a rehabilitation environment for patients, with various medical conditions, who may require a longer stay or less intensive therapy.
