The veterans’ health advocate helps Veterans to navigate the public health system and supports all Veterans in South Australia by:

Providing a single point of contact for Veterans in South Australia;

  • Assisting in discharge planning for Veterans;
  • Assisting in navigating the public health system and accessing appropriate services where eligible;
  • Seeking Veteran input and engagement in SA Health strategy and policy development and service planning; and
  • Partnering with Ex-Service Organisations and the Veteran community to provide links to these services for Veterans.

The Minister for Health’s Veterans’ Health Advisory Council

The Veterans’ Health Advisory Council (VHAC) advises the Minister for Health on health issues of Veterans, war widows and their families in South Australia and advocates on their behalf.

Open Arms offers free and confidential individual, couples and family counselling, and group programs to help current and ex-serving ADF personnel and their families.

Open Arms counsellors have an understanding of military culture and can work with clients to find effective solutions for improved mental health and wellbeing.

Safe Zone Support is an Australian Government initiative established to assist members of the defence and veteran community impacted by the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force (IGADF) Afghanistan Inquiry. Safe Zone Support is a free anonymous counselling service manned by specialists who have an understanding of military culture and experience. Calls are not recorded.
