Heatwaves during pregnancy

If you are pregnant, you may have a higher body temperature, which makes you more sensitive to heat.

Follow these tips to ensure you and your unborn baby do not overheat:

  • If you feel unwell because of the heat, stop what you are doing and lie down somewhere cool.
  • Pace yourself. Put your feet up whenever you can and get plenty of rest.
  • Lie down and sleep on your left side so more blood and nutrients can reach the placenta and your baby.
  • If your symptoms continue, speak with your doctor, obstetrician, midwife, or the maternity unit where you plan to give birth for specific medical advice.

In a medical emergency, always call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.
