In 2023, Office for Ageing Well will coordinate South Australia’s first annual Week of Ageing Well (the Week), to be held annually 1-7 October, in line with International Day of Older Persons (1 October).

The Week supports the vision of South Australia’s Plan for Ageing Well 2020-2025, that ‘South Australia is a healthy, connected, equitable and sustainable community, which takes a whole of life approach that fosters many years of living well, and supports us to die with dignity, in line with our wishes’.

The Week aims to value and celebrate the diversity of older South Australians and their significant contributions to our society. It is an opportunity for all South Australians to connect, through events that support us to live happy and meaningful lives. The Week brings together ageing well initiatives within government, non-government, organisations and communities, and provides supporting resources. The Week also has the capacity to raise awareness about tackling ageism, growing diversity, and increasing accessibility.

Life not labels is a key message of the Week that encourages people to reflect on what may define us, including busting negative stereotypes about getting older, and to share our unique stories and interests that inspire and form meaningful connections, promoting healthy and happy living.

South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well is supported by Office for Ageing Well and Seniors Card, SA Health.
