There have been 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 10,651 active cases in South Australia.
More about COVID-19 update 14 August 2022Port Pirie, South Australia (located 230km north of Adelaide) is the location of one of the world’s largest primary lead and zinc smelters, and the third largest silver producer, which has been in continuous operation since 1889.
Over time airborne lead-contaminated dust produced during smelting operations has been transported by wind and deposited throughout the city, in houses and on properties. This environmental contamination is an ongoing source of lead exposure for the community.
