Combined registered nurse/midwife TPPP

The LCLHN offers a combined registered nurse/midwife graduate program that is specially designed to support the transition of dual registered graduates as they transition into the roles of nurse and midwife. Graduates will experience two six-month rotations in nursing and midwifery to provide the opportunity to explore and develop in each profession.

The midwifery rotation will focus on the consolidation of knowledge and skills in caring for women and babies throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal journey. The nursing rotation will focus on the consolidation of knowledge and skills in caring for paediatrics and/or adult inpatients in an acute clinical setting.

Graduates will be supported by the nursing and midwifery education team and clinical support staff, as well as the broader department teams.

Key benefits

A TPPP with the LCLHN provides you with the best start to your midwifery career. We are adaptable, supportive and will provide you with a wealth of experience, knowledge and much more!

Our TPPP is designed to equip graduate Midwives with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to provide safe, timely, effective, and person-centred care. Professional development days are complemented with tutorials and workshops that promote creative and reflective midwifery best practice.

Participants will be based in one of our two birthing health services in Mount Gambier and Naracoorte and may have opportunities to work across both sites.

During each rotation, graduates are supported by clinical experts including Midwife Educators, Clinical Facilitators, and ward-based Preceptors. The program is underpinned by a structured study day program, state-wide learning modules and debriefing sessions that focus on clinical decision-making, patient management and professional practice.

The Clinical Education Team is based across the LCLHN and has an open-door policy where graduates are welcomed to discuss any issues or concerns. All graduates undertake confidential appraisals at the beginning of each rotation to provide opportunities for graduates to ask for advice/support, discuss career pathways and provide feedback about their training experience.

Being a member of a smaller cohort of graduates, you will have access to individual support from the Clinical Education Team and will also develop close working relationships with all levels of staff within the multidisciplinary team.
