Combined Transition to Professional Practice (TPPP) and Research Program

Combining the SA Health TPPP with an opportunity to complete a Research Honours program.

SA Health is partnering with Flinders University to offer a combined TPPP and Research Program to nursing and midwifery graduates.

This pilot program is open to registered nurses and midwives to combine the standard SA Health TPPP with an opportunity to complete a research honours program.

Applicants will be assessed in line with the standard SA Health TPPP selection and assessment methods and will be prioritised by overall assessment score and academic merit.

Places are limited and those interested in a research career pathway are encouraged to apply.

Key dates

Monday 1 July 2024 - Current TPPP Registered Nurse and Midwife applicants can update preferences to include Combined TPPP/Research Program
Sunday 21 July 2024 - Deadline for editing applications
August/September 2024 - First round of provisional offers
September/October 2024 - Second round of provisional offers

Eligibility

You must meet the following criteria at the time of application:

complete your nursing/midwifery studies between January 2024 and February 2025 that will lead to initial registration as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
complete no more than 456 hours (3 months full time equivalent) of paid experience as a Registered Nurse in any setting in Australia and/or New Zealand
complete no more than 912 hours (6 months full time equivalent) of paid experience as a Midwife in any setting within Australia/New Zealand
hours of paid experience completed outside of Australia/New Zealand are not counted if the applicant is required to retrain in Australia to obtain Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) registration
complete no more than 3 months of a graduate nurse/midwife program (or equivalent) previously in any setting and in any country
apply outside the ‘employment exclusion period’ after taking a Targeted Voluntary Separation Package (TVSP) from the SA Government
achieve a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0. Confirmation of final GPA will be required at the conclusion of nursing/midwifery degree
meet the entry requirements for the Flinders University Honours Program.

Program structure

Three-year employment contract
nurse or midwife TPPP to commence in January/February 2025, with the Honours Program commencing in Semester 1, 2026 (February)
commitment of 0.84 – 1.0 FTE for the first 12 months whilst completing the TPPP
flexible commitment of 0.62 – 0.84 FTE for the duration of the Honours Program
coordinated clinical supernumerary time for orientation, environmental, workflow and policy familiarisation
supervision will be provided by an industry-based coordinator and clinical supervisor for the TPPP component
honours program supervision will be provided by a Principal Supervisor from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS), Flinders University, in collaboration with an industry associate supervisor
flexible rostering to allow attendance for university commitments
study days to consolidate and increase clinical skills, knowledge, critical thinking and decision-making capability
targeted professional performance and development planning and support, inclusive of regular performance development discussions and career planning.
