Healthcare

South Australia is home to a world-class public healthcare system with state-of-the-art facilities and a long history, and exciting future, of excellence in health and medical research.

The Royal Adelaide Hospital is South Australia’s flagship hospital providing a comprehensive range of the most complex clinical care to around 85,000 inpatients and 400,000 outpatients each year. It is co-located with the Southern Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) in the largest health and medical research precinct in the Southern Hemisphere, Adelaide BioMed City.

Joining this significant healthcare hub will be our new Women’s and Children’s Hospital, to be built next to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, ensuring South Australian families have access to the most advanced hospital care, technology and medical research. Building this hospital next to the Royal Adelaide Hospital will give women direct access to adult clinical support and provide access to the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s helipad, significantly reducing the risk of transferring maternity, paediatric and neonatal emergencies.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, South Australia has continued to have low COVID-19 transmission levels across the state in comparison with other jurisdictions and countries, including sustained periods with no community transmission. South Australia has high COVID-19 vaccination rates, with over 90% of the population having received at least two doses of the vaccine.
