South Australian Suicide Prevention Plan 2017-2021
Suicide prevention is everyone’s business.
- Making people a priority
- Empowering communities
- Translating evidence into practice
Many South Australians have been affected in some way by the death of a person who has taken their own life. Suicide is the leading cause of death for South Australians aged 15 to 44 and it is vital that we continue our efforts to address this significant social issue.
Suicide is complex and does not result from one single cause. Understanding the range of difficulties helps us understand the solutions. Raising awareness, breaking-down the stigma, increasing connection and responding compassionately can save lives.
The Plan was developed following wide spread public consultation and builds on the earlier South Australian Suicide Prevention Strategy 2012-2016.
