Office of the Chief Pharmacist
The Office of the Chief Pharmacist provides statewide strategic leadership in policy, legislation and governance for pharmacy, medicines and health technology assessment. This is to promote optimal outcome for our patients, clinicians and health system.
The Office of the Chief Pharmacist interacts with a range of Commonwealth agencies on matters relating to medicines, including the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare (ACSQHC).
The Office of the Chief Pharmacist is also responsible for delivery of medicines policy and programs, and health technology assessment in the South Australian public sector, including:
- Medicines policy, legislation, quality and safety.
- Cancer chemotherapy.
- Medicines governance and assessment.
- Health technology assessment.
The Office of the Chief Pharmacist is coordinating the delivery of community pharmacy initiatives to support pharmacists to provide additional services to improve patient outcomes for South Australians and ease pressure on hospital emergency departments.
