South Australia’s Plan for Ageing Well 2020-2025 outlines the State Government and community’s vision and priorities for ageing well for all South Australians.
The Retirement Villages Unit administers the Retirement Villages Act 2016 and Retirement Villages Regulations 2017. The Retirement Villages Unit promotes and enforces compliance with the legislation, provides general advice and information about retirement villages and assists in resolving disputes between residents and operators.
The Retirement Villages Unit also maintains the South Australian Retirement Villages Register which contains information about all retirement villages in South Australia.

Office for Ageing Well, SA Health is seeking feedback on the Retirement Villages (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2023, which amends the Retirement Villages Act 2016.
This consultation provides an opportunity for stakeholders to consider whether the proposed changes achieve the intent of the recommendations from a review conducted in 2021, and if any additional changes to the legislation are needed before the Bill is introduced in Parliament.
The consultation is open from Friday 31 March and closes on Friday 19 May 2023 at 5.00pm.
